With all of the joys of the holiday season many forget about the inherent dangers for pets. Whether you are in Huntington Beach or elsewhere it is important to know how you can keep your furry friends safe during the holidays. If you have any questions you should consult your veterinarian.

Christmas trees can be kept in the corner. This could help put it out of your pet’s mind. Placing items that make noise around the tree so that you can have some warning about a possible tree disaster.

Tinsel and ornaments are beautiful to decorate with, but they are also possible dangers to pets. If your pet eats tinsel or ornaments it could block their intestines causing them to need surgery. Broken ornaments can also cause injury to paws and mouths.

Lights are fun and beautiful, but if low enough they are a problem for pets. Animals can get tangled in the wires, and possibly be burned in the process. If your pet tries to chew on the wire it could shock them.

Plants can also be an issue whether it is a live Christmas tree, holly, mistletoe, or poinsettias. The needles of pine trees could puncture the intestines of your pet if they eat them. Other holiday plants are poisonous to animals.

If you use any of these during the holidays please put them out of the reach of your animals. Have a great holiday season, and be safe!
